What Is the Best Omega 3 Supplement?

You will see me write a lot about the benefits of taking Omega 3 on this website. Flaxseed is certainly one way, but not the only way of achieving that. However, I thought that an article on which supplement is actually the best for getting Omega 3 into your body, might prove useful to my readers. Before I examine that, let’s just remind ourselves why Omega 3, 6 & 9 are actually important.

What is Omega 3, 6 & 9?

They are fatty acids. Some people refer to them as essential fatty acids. According to all the latest research, they help reduce the risk of heart disease and help promote healthy living, and healthy skin. When combined with a good diet, some basic exercise they help lower what is termed “blood fat,” and improve cholesterol levels considerably.

The blood fat is known as triglyceride but that is nothing more than a medical term, for having fat inside the blood cells. From all the latest research, it does seem pretty clear that having these numbered Omegas in your body is generally beneficial for your health. For me, that makes it worth considering in a serious way.

It is easy to get baffled by many of the medical terms so I will try to leave those out and just deal with the basic facts.

Omega 3 is found primarily in fish and in certain brands of eggs and orange juice and this helps inflammation in the body.

Do We As Humans Naturally Produce Omega?

The simple answer to this is no we don’t. Our body produces many important things that allow us to stay healthy but there are also certain things that it does not produce and these fatty acids are among them.

When we are younger the reality is that it doesn’t matter a great deal. However, as we start to age, then it becomes more important to our overall health. This is the main reason why people look for a supplement to make sure that they have Omega in their system.

Natural Methods to Obtain Omega Fatty Acids

Fish – this is the easiest method to make sure that you have a natural supply of Omega 3. That sounds simple but there are two issues with this method alone. The obvious one is that you need to like fish, and the second is you need to be eating fish at least once a week. That will simply not be the case for a large number of people.

Then we also have the additional problem of having to look at fish pollution. Rather than repeat myself there is a full article on that which you can read by clicking here.

In brief, though, the seas are polluted as we could guess, and as such there are high levels of mercury to be found in many of the fish supplies that are sold on the market. That means that the World Health Organisation has recommended that we only eat fish, once a week.

Soy foods are also good sources of Omega 3 but they are very high in Omega 6 which then diminishes how helpful these can be for heart disease. This can as you can imagine starting to get highly complex, and I have no wish to bore you with all of that. Fish is considered to be the best natural product available that contains Omega 3.

Best Supplements For Omega 3

If you have read any articles on my site, you will already know that flaxseed works really well for this. You can read all about the benefits of flaxseed oil and make your own mind up. That would be my own personal preference as well, but in this article I wanted to look at others.

Fish Oil

It makes sense that fish oil would certainly contain Omega 3 and it is a source that many people use.

To this effect, you will see many products like the one I have shown here. These are soft gels which are popular with many people as they are not taken from fish, that are bred on fish farms.

That makes a big difference and in particular, they really help with the right balance of triglyceride. As we mentioned earlier, that is very important.

There is also no soy in these, nor are there any type of artificial colours or flavouring. Fish oil is recommended by doctors and has been used for many years. A lot of people did not like the taste of fish oil and that is why capsules like this have become a great alternative.

There are many suppliers of fish oil, so it is a matter of searching for the one you like the best. Not all fish oil is created equal, so please read the reviews. The one I have picked here is however high quality and rated very highly by actual buyers.

Omega Squeeze Packets

Coromega Omega-3

These have become more and more popular as they have moved away from any of the oil, seed or capsule formats.

Each packet contains the recommended daily amount of Omega 3, and it can be eaten straight from the packet, or mixed into food or drinks. My initial thoughts were that this must contain some form of sugars but they don’t.

The manufacturer claims that their product can enter the bloodstream three times faster than most fish oils. Somehow they have managed to make this product into a formula that has a smoothie-like taste, and the packets make it easy to store and also to take with you when you are going to work etc.

In this particular product, you get 90 orange flavoured packets which are in essence a three month supply.

Now Foods, Omega 3-6-9 1000 mg

Now Omega-3-6-9

This is also a relatively new product to the market and one that is simply aimed at providing the right balances of Omega 3, 6 & 9. That is of course very important and getting that blend right is crucial.

They take these from flaxseed, primrose and black currant to make sure they have got the blending correct.

These are becoming more popular as a choice as they give end-users the benefits of getting all three of the Omegas in one single capsule. I have not tried these myself as I am a flaxseed user, but these do get very good reviews.

I hope that you have found this useful. There are other supplements available that will also contain Omega 3, but these are by far the most popular.
